Abstract

The article analyzes the concept of counter-culture reaching it from two moments: first one is a historic part, in which its presented the evolution of the counter-cultural youth in base of the birth of expressions of protest, mainly taking into consideration the sociologist Theodore Roszak’s contribution. The second part presents the way in which the 1990 Zapatista movement influenced a sector of young people whom heredated the ideas of protest from previous decades, helping them to stand in solidarity with natives of Chiapas starting from the EZLN irruption on January, 1994. The work takes as an example the manifestations and utopies that were starting to become more prominent in some of the events occurred in the San Cristobal de Las Casas city in 1994, a distinctive and necessary year to comprehend the social movements and the actions of obstestation at the end of the century.
