Teaching and learning strategies to improve English speaking skills among students
Main Article Content
Abstract
This scientific article arises from the pressing need to ensure that high school students achieve an adequate level of English oral proficiency, essential skill for obtaining a professional degree and future employment. The main objective is to analyze the teaching and learning strategies that promote the development of this competence in students at the Centro de Estudios Tecnológicos industrial y de servicios No. 68, located in the city of Los Mochis, in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. The methodology was qualitative and, from a mini-ethnographic perspective, the teaching practices and communicative interactions of the students in real classroom contexts were observed and analyzed. It is theoretically based on communicative and constructivist approaches, as well as recent studies on English language teaching. The results show that strategies based on communicative tasks, collaborative learning, and formative feedback strengthen students' confidence and oral competence. Finally, it is concluded that teaching oral proficiency in English requires a balance between grammatical instruction, meaningful exposure to the language, and emotional support.
